Cate Hall

I’m the CEO of Astera, a private foundation dedicated to supporting transformative technologies across AI, neurotech, space, planetary science, and energy. I think a lot about the future and humans' place in it.

In past lives, I've been a Supreme Court lawyer, the no. 1 female poker player in the world, a biotech founder, and a drug addict.

I write weekly at Useful Fictions, where I spend most of my time talking about agency — which I think about as the entirely learnable capacity to both see and act on all of the degrees of freedom that life really offers. I'm writing a book on agency, You Can Just Do Things, with my husband Sasha (out next spring via Harper Business).
